Decode Nbs
Decode NbS is a web-based decision nudging tool developed by WWF-India under its One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) in collaboration with NIUA. The tool offers a collection of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) as an alternative to constructed city infrastructure to address specific challenges due to climate change. It empowers decision-makers with tailored function-based solutions as sustainable city practice to catalyse climate adaptation and mitigation
Data Requirements
Identification of key climate challenge, preferred implementation approach (retrofit, new implementation) and site-specific context such as Geoclimatic zone, soil conditions, urbanisation trends, surface condition, risks and local vulnerability, community interests, partners to contribute, hybrid models of applying NbS on ground, etc.
Objective
“The tool aims to facilitate and encourage decision-makers in cities to embrace Nature based Solutions (NbS) for building climate resilience
These solutions need to be adapted to the site-context under the guidance of city and biodiversity experts
Implementing localised NbS delivers environmental, social and economic benefits beyond conventional city infrastructure”
Target Users
Municipal officials, urban practitioners, students, communities, civil society organisations
Key Features
DecodeNbS is a decision nudging tool for the uptake of urban NbS. The tool has six critical climate issues and 20 Nature-based Solutions under them. The tool is building on the primary solutions and other use cases impacting local natural resources. The primary solutions include brief descriptions, along with guidance to inform decisions for climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.
